Global Warming

Global Warming is one of the most serious problems that face the human history. It means: the increase in the temperature of the oceans and the earth near the surface air. It has started since the industrial revolution began. All the toxic gases which were produced by factories and vehicles have increased the temperature and force the ice on the north and south poles to melt. Moreover, this causes the rise of the sea level which leads to floods in tropical countries. By that, we can understand very clearly that the main causes of this crisis are the human beings. And it is our decision to stop or at least reduce the emissions just for the sake of our planet and our future.

The Planet Earth is the home of all living creatures. We as human beings, the more we live the more danger we face on this planet. The problem is, all people around the globe are doing their best to survive. But sometimes it leads to critical problems that destroy our planet. This essay talks about what mankind has done to planet earth and the consequences of global warming in recent history. "Carbon Trust debuts 'carbon cuts' accreditation." Marketing. Population growth is a serious dilemma that is growing every year, every minute, and every second. It is the root of most, if not all, of the world’s problems and it is the major global problem due to several reasons. Most of the problems we have today, such as food and water shortages, air and water pollution and global warming are the effects of overpopulation. The more people there are, the more resources are consumed and the more waste created .
Global Warming and Population — Global Issues." Global Issues: social, political, economic and environmental issues that affect us all — Global Issues. 28 May 2009. http://www.globalissues.org/article/708/global-warming-and-population.

Deforestation is another serious problem we face in the world. Many people are still unaware of the impact this will cause. Forests act as a major carbon store because carbon dioxide (CO2) is taken up from the atmosphere and used to produce the carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that make up the tree (The Independent). Then trees will be burnt and this will release CO2 which is the main supplier to the greenhouse effect. Forests are the home to millions of creatures and they act like a filter for the entire planet. Deforestation: The hidden cause of global warming - Climate Change, Environment - The Independent." The Independent News UK and Worldwide News Newspaper. 28 May 2009. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/deforestation-the-hidden-cause-of-global-warming-448734.html.

Pollution, whether it is air or water, is a problem that everyone should be concerned about. The increase of the automobiles, factories and burning garbage in open dumps are more and more creating the greenhouse effect and the ozone layer. People all around the world are exposed and are at risk to many diseases, such as skin and lung cancer.

The solution of this crisis is building cool cities. Therefore, Abu Dhabi wants to be the first in building such cities. It is called Masdar City "The source". It uses alternative resources that have harmless impacts on the planet. It is to be occupied for around 50,000 people by 2014. However, is building these cities practical or not? That is the question.

The goal of cool cities is to make the whole world population live in cool cities that are to be built all around the world by the year 2050, which in my opinion is extremely hard to achieve. That is because of two main reasons. The first one is the cost of these cities; not all cities around the world can afford the cost , seeing as Masdar city will cost around $22b ."$22b Masdar City to rely mainly on outside funds" Gulf News 11 Feb 2008
"Masdar Plans World's First Green City" 19 Oct 2007

Secondly, the population growth is continuing. That is because it is soaring sharply and studies say that by 2050 the world population will hike to around 10bn. By this figure about 200,000 cool cities must be built to occupy this population.

In conclusion, the world is going in the opposite direction. People are exploiting the resources in a surreal way. Countries with high population should apply a regulation or a law to their citizens to sustain the growth.
In my opinion, the most satisfactory solution for the environmental pollution is to build cool cities. Another solution is to encourage automobile manufacturers to produce electricity or steam powered cars and motorbikes instead of those using fossil fuel. Last but not least, persuade factories and industrial plants to use alternative energy that doesn’t harm the environment.

Alternative power

Alternative power

Alternative power means the energy derived from natural resources that are renewed or that can not be implemented (renewable energy). It differs materially from fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas, or nuclear fuel which is used in nuclear reactors. Renewable energy does not produce the waste like carbon dioxide or harmful gases or increase global warming, which occurs with the combustion of fossil fuels or nuclear waste resulting from harmful nuclear power reactors.
Alternative power or renewable energy can be produced from wind, water and sun; also it can be produced from the movement of waves, tides or geothermal activity underground.

Solar power

There are so many types of renewable energy resources like solar power. Solar power is an excellent energy resource. The sun gives us free rays, so why not use them as a power source?  Solar power is set out in a row of panels which take in the sun’s energy and provides power for homes and other things. Cars can now be solely powered by solar panels, creating huge possibilities which are called hybrid cars. If solar energy was used worldwide, along with other renewable sources, the world would be cleaner and more pleasurable to live in. Solar power cells convert sunlight into electricity, using the energy of speeding photons to create an electrical current within a solar panel. Photons are created in the center of the sun by the fusion of atoms. It takes a photon about a million years to work its way to the surface of the sun, but once free it is hurled through space so fast that it reaches earth in just eight minutes after traveling 93 million miles.http://0-www.accessscience.com.library.hct.ac.ae/content.aspx?searchStr=renewable+energy&id=YB041150

Wind power
Wind is a natural occurrence where air is pushed in a direction powerfully or gently. In places where it is powerful, wind turbines have been constructed to provide energy. Wind is around all the time and has no limit to it. People have decided to create structures such as wind turbines. Wind turbines are big ‘towers’ with 3 prongs on them (similar to a windmill) which are pushed around and around by the wind which creates energy.  The largest wind farm in the world is in Denmark, where a lot of wind turbines have been built. The energy is being sold and used. This is an exceptional concept of using natural energy to benefit people. The large turbine farms burn large amounts of garbage to form coal, thus creating steam. The steam powers the turbines faster, creating more clean energy. The easiest way to understand how wind turbines work is to think of a fan operating in reverse; rather than electricity spinning the blades and thus generating wind, the wind spins the blades, thereby generating electricity. Wind turbines operate on a simple principle. The energy in the wind turns two or three propeller-like blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity.Wind turbines are mounted above ground on a tall tower to capture the most energy.Wind turbines can be used to produce electricity for a single home or building, or they can be connected to an electricity grid. http://www.poweredgenerators.com/wind-power-generators.html

Tidal power
Tidal power or tidal energy is a form of hydropower that converts the energy of tides into electricity or other useful forms of power. The main benefit of tidal power is that it is free and it does not generate any unsafe greenhouse gases or hazardous waste. It functions without any fuel requirement, only with natural tidal energy. It is a consistent source of electricity with very little maintenance cost. Offshore turbines and vertical-axis turbines are economical to construct and do not have a big ecological effect. Tidal waves are a way to generate electricity from the movement of the moon and its effect on ocean level. The energy is generated by the movement of water when the tides are produced in the ocean by the gravitational movement of moon and sun. The magnitude of tide is the dependent on the movement and change in the position of sun and the moon. The tidal force is infinite as long as the sun and the moon survive. The energy of tidal waves can be converted to electricity by making dams and barrages. The energy from the tidal wave is stored by installing a tidal generator. The greater the velocity of the tide, the greater would be the electricity generation. There are three broad categories & types of tidal power. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_power
